Preparatory Cleansing (Preparation For Fasting)

It is recommended to start cleansing the gut first i.e. the colon. After that to cleanse the liver and then the kidneys.

Why is this important?

It is important to cleanse these organs because they are the most important ones during the fasting period as they ‘deal’ with the poisons, debris etc, which have accumulated in our bodies over a period of time, these organs break them down and eliminate them from the body. So , if they are in good shape they can do it better and faster.

For short(er) fasting, which usually lasts between 1 day and 3 days - and which is normally repeated every 7-10 days, several times (and best suited to slim or average built individuals ) in a row – for beneficial results, the cleansing of the gut (colon) can be done by taking some natural purgatives (castor oil, senna, rhubarb root…) or freshly squeezed apple juice in abundance. It is recommended, for beginners of average build to fast for about 24-36 hours, initially - and repeat the same on a weekly basis.

The liver can be cleansed by olive oil (taken with a spoon, one or two big spoons initially) and lemon juice or grapefruit (freshly squeezed), taken one after the other in the evening around 7pm. It may happen that people using this method get diarrhoea, but that is not to be worried about, it is actually as it should be. To counter-balance that, they can eat boiled potatoes and some rice.

There are also herbs which would do the same cleansing of the liver (the herbs are ground into a powder and mixed with water and drunk). The herbs are: senna (Cassia acutifolia Delile), rhubarb root (Rheum palmatum), seeds of: Coriander (Coriandrum sativum), Caraway (Carum carvi), Aniseed(Anisum vulgare), Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), Dill (Anethum graveolens).

The kidney cleansing: boil flax seed and then drink the liquid formed after the boiling (it is somewhat thick but can be diluted with warm water). If the taste is not pleasant you can add some lemon juice into it. Drink the stuff over a period of two days.

Proportions: one coffee spoon full of the flax seed to a cup of water (200ml).

Alternatively, drink a decoction (boiled, for some time ) of rose hips, leaves of a birch tree and knotgrass (Polygonum aviculare).

Also using watermelon as food for as long as you can sustain it. If you feel thirst –eat watermelon, if you are hungry – eat watermelon. Only water melon (and if absolutely necessary, with some bread made from sprouted wheat) throughout the day and longer, for a few days. This will cleanse your kidneys of kidney stones and gravel and revitalise them - and it will also cleanse your gut.
